Hand picked and sorted leaves from ancient tea trees on the protected land of the Blue Mountains in Yunnan province, China. This amazing tea produces a rich, earthy infusion with notes of cedar and honey.
Ancient tea leaves can be stored and aged in the same manner as Pu-erh. Our premium loose leaf Organic Ancient Forest Blend Black Tea is not aged but has a flavor very similar to ripe Pu-erh but less earthy.
Ancient trees are between 100 and 2000 years old. These trees are wild and usually found in hard to reach areas. The Yunnan government banned by law the use of pesticides on ancient trees.
Because of their age, ancient trees have enormous root systems giving them access to vast quantities of various nutrients and allowing it to draw up more than a young tree. This allows the flavor of the leaf to be far superior than that of younger trees and also delivers more nutrients to the drinker.
Our premium loose leaf teas can be steeped several times. Ancient leaves can be steeped more times than younger leaves.
