Why Forbidden City Tea?
The Forbidden City was the Chinese imperial palace from 1420 through 1912. Located in the center of Beijing, it housed the emperors and their families. Construction of the 980 buildings on 180 acres took 14 years to complete. During these almost 500 years, 24 emperors sat on the throne. During this time, tea artisans experimented with different techniques of growing and processing teas. When particularly excellent varieties were produced, they were offered to the emperor for tasting. If the emperor found the tea to be worthy, it would become an imperial tea and then be reserved for the emperor and his court.
These once rare teas are now available for everyone and many can be found here.
