Da Hong Pao - 2019 Blended Oolong Loose Leaf Tea
Da Hong Pao is a blended Wuyi oolong tea and also called Big Red Robe. The small, family owned and run farm from which we sourced our tea is located in the Dahongpao Scenic Area, a national reserve that contains the original rock tea trees of Wuyi, China. The family has owned the farm for several generations. The tea is harvested and processed by hand.
This Da Hong Pao tea was harvested in 2019. The leaves were twisted, dried and roasted three times over lychee charcoal. Lychee charcoal produces no smoke and adds no flavor. The roasting enhances the flavor and is a very time consuming and difficult process.
Da Hong Pao refers to the name of the tea harvested from the original trees of the Dahongpao Scenic Area. Since harvesting from those original trees was banned in 2007, Wuyi tea producers began selling a blended tea under the name Da Hong Pao. Our tea is a mix of Zheng Yan and Ban Yan teas and has a delicious, unique flavor with great body.
If looking for a tea with a flavor that is more similar to those original tea, our Bei Dou was cultivated from a cutting of one of the original trees.
Our 2019 Da Hong Pao oolong rock tea will give strong, clear brews for at least 8 steeps, up to 15.
